I recently came across a dental practice that had been criticised for not retaining the written reference following taking on a new staff member. It clearly said in the Recruitment Policy that following a satisfactory interview and acceptance of a job offer, all references would be destroyed. The practice was therefore following their policy. They explained that it has been virtually impossible to obtain references without giving previous employers this assurance.
